On this life-long journey of yet undetermined length, we should be asking, "Where am I going?" When I was a child, I watched red ants crossing a sidewalk on very hot days. I watched them leave the dirt edge, venture onto the hot cement, and make their way towards the other side. I was very amused as I watched them bustle onto the vast wasteland of super-hot pavement, take a few steps and reverse their direction several times. They never simply crossed in a bee-line to the other side. As far as I could tell, there were no obstacles that they were trying to avoid, but they just wouldn't go straight for any length of time. Sometimes they would almost retreat to the starting point again. It looked like they just couldn't decide if they wanted to cross in the first place. Later I thought of what a good analogy this scene would make when considering following human beings on their course through life. Indeed, I've had some employers that behaved exactly like the red ants when trying to lead the company towards production and profit. The scripture declares "Straight and narrow is the path that leads to eternal life." The Old Testament, "...This is the way, walk in it..." Isa 30:21. And for a very definitive road map of life, "Jesus said to them, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me." John 14:6. For those who have embarked on this journey of faith, we know that the only guaranteed path to Heaven is by following in the footsteps of Jesus. He came from Heaven. He returned to Heaven. He will come to earth again, and He will take us back to Heaven when He returns to gather the church from the four corners of the earth. He KNOWS the way like an experienced guide leading hikers through the wilderness. Pastor James Kirby makes this very astute observation, "All roads lead to God, but not all roads lead to Heaven." As you watch this video sermon, consider the path of your own feet because they will eventually bring you to God, but will they bring you to Heaven?

One of the most arrogant things we can do is try to play God. We are gifted and graced with amazing abilities and powers, but we should not presume to be or act like anything more than we really are. God said, in the beginning, "Let us make man in our image." That is an amazing bequeathment from God to his creation. Note: He did not say, "Let us make more of ourselves." Pastor James Kirby talks about what God-attributes Our Father in Heaven did pass on to us, but he also teaches what God did not pass on to us. Please watch this video and ask yourself how much of you reflects the image of God vs. how much of you is not "real" because you might think of yourself more highly than you ought or you just misrepresent yourself to yourself and others as being more than you really are. This teaching is not meant to be a psychology lesson, but a lesson how we can be truly sober minded and just in our own estimation of self. There is a balance of being you are meant to experience. We need that balance as we meant to walk with hinds feet in high places.

What is holiness? It is very important to God, because He says "Be Holy for I am Holy." That is not stated as an option. So, how do we become holy? How is it so imperative that we live a holy life before men and God? There is an old church saying that said, "I don't, drink, smoke, cuss, or chew or go with them that do." Is that the very essence of holiness or is that the basis of people who claim to be "Holier Than Thou?" because they don't do certain things. Do you believe that your authority as a Christian has actually given you delegated authority that exceeds the authority of Satan? Jesus said "All authority in Heaven and on Earth has been given to the Son of Man." He has the power to delegate that authority to the church and has done exactly that so we now have a better than even chance of defeating the Enemy of our souls. Satan knows this is the case so he uses three misconceptions to rob you of that knowledge of your authority. This video is very instructive from multiple aspects. Pastor James Kirby's wife is a potter and so Jim is very familiar with the tools and the techniques of the trade. So, if we are clay in the Creator's hands, what should we do, if anything, to help the our vessel look like what the Master potter intended for the final showpiece. Are our hands also working the potter's wheel at the same time? Do we trust that the Master is making the most out of the clay with which He has to work? Maybe we're tweaking the process so what we think may display better, will be actually better than what the Master potter is attempting to produce. Do we trust the actions and circumstances directed by the Holy Spirit in our lives to lead to the best possible use of the clay? Can the clay say to the potter, "Why have you made me thus?" This is probably one of the most significant sermons I have ever heard on praying to and for the Holy Spirit. One of the cornerstone prayers was not to pray for the manifestations of the Holy Spirit but to pray for the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Stephen, the martyred deacon was a man who the Apostles characterized as a man "Full of the Spirit" and his life was evidential of that condition. This fullness was evidenced by his faithfulness to the end and having no bitterness towards those who were putting him to death. He was abandoned to God and not subject to the fear of men or the loss of his own life from the earth. In this video message, Pastor James Kirby shares his three prayers that he is asking the Holy Spirit to hear and help make come to pass in his own life. I was moved with both the sincerity and humanity of these prayers. The Holy Spirit surely hears these prayers and transforms any person who can pray them with heartfelt conviction. When you approach the Holy Spirit in prayer, who brings all things Jesus said and did to our remembrance, consider what God can do with you if there was no fear or over-regard for your own life. You would become a true servant who God could send anywhere to anyone at any time. For that, you would need the fullness of the Spirit. After all the eight attempts on Jesus's life, Satan did not understand that sending Jesus to the cross would be the final death blow to himself. This was the crushing of the serpent's head revealed all the way back in Genesis. While Christ was hanging on the cross, He said, "It is finished." He, through this final act of humility and submission, reigned down the just judgment and ultimate penalty for Satan's rebellion and pride that initially caused him to be cast down to the earth with a third of the angels that sided with him against God. The startling reality is that if Satan could have aborted Jesus's plan for salvation of mankind by killing Him before His appointed time, he would have destroyed God's plan completely. However, Satan made for himself an enemy in God who could not be defeated, bested, or frustrated in any possible way. Jesus escaped all eight attempts on His life by Divine planning and timing so that He could go to the cross for all time for you and me. Here's a question to ponder: If Satan could read the scriptures and see the prophesies about Jesus, why did he not see his own, ultimate defeat and try to kill Jesus after the slaughter of the innocents? Why did he not make an attempt to kill the Messiah while he was just a child, or a teenager, or anytime before his public ministry? Pastor James Kirby answers these very questions definitively. If you have been following this series, you will appreciate the timing of God as Jesus appreciated it. After three attempts on Christ's life, we find five more as told in this video. How could Jesus just slip out of a hostile crowd when all their attention was upon him? We can speculate that he changed his appearance or miraculously created a distraction that drew their attention elsewhere, but we would be guessing. The only time he made himself unrecognizable was after he rose from the dead. Who wanted to kill him and prevent him from fulfilling God's will? Why did they want to kill him? If you were to take on a role as a detective, how would you conduct your investigation? You might start by asking eye witnesses. Elder Douglas Alexander takes an insightful look at the only Psalm Moses wrote. Psalm 90 is a lament yet there is much to learn about how Moses looked to God as he was nearing 80 years of age and had not yet received his call to go to Egypt to speak to the highest power in the land. With God's empowerment upon himself and Aaron, the entire nation of Israel would be set free. In Psalm 90, Moses is declaring a man may live to 80 by "reason of strength", but Moses received another 40 years beyond what he expected. Douglas talks about how Ageism is a lie of Satan, adopted by this world, and has been subtly served into the church to undermine the older, seasoned saints and weaken their potential strength and power for ministry. This "agelessism" of increased ministry potential is evidenced by added wisdom, knowledge, understanding, experience, and suffering that gives rise to both sympathy and empathy in ministering to the church and to the community. Douglas argues for an increase in value to the church, rather than a misperception of ever-diminishing worth based upon age alone. If God extends our years, it is because we have been given the blessing of more time to do the works that were established before the foundation of the world, and that were uniquely chosen for us as individuals and a church to do with all our might.
