You have arrived at the 20 week discipleship training course. Each video has been designed to increase your knowledge of the scriptures to prepare you to be the disciple of Christ, fully equipped to share the gospel and do the will of Our Father in heaven, just as Jesus did when he spent instructional time with the twelve apostles. These videos will provide the guidance for answering questions concerned with the origin of the scriptures, what bible study tools are available to you, and fundamental doctrines that define our faith and actions in this world. We are currently compiling a workbook with questions for discussions for either a group or classroom setting. Please enjoy these videos designed to make you a better disciple of Jesus.

From the rugged coast of Mendocino, Pastor James Kirby begins a series of teachings on "Discipleship." Following the 4-Part series on "Salvation," you will be guided into an understanding of what you can expect to learn in your new, Born Again and Regenerated life as a Christian. Jesus Himself tells us that not everyone who begins this new life will continue to follow Him, Learn of Him, and Live for Him. This first lesson is so foundational to beginning your life as a Christian that we would urge you to really take the time and listen to the scriptures from Matthew 13:1-9 as Pastor Jim reads them aloud. Having this understanding in your heart and mind will fortify you for the days ahead as you begin to walk "In the Newness of Life in Christ." Seasoned Christians too will learn much from this teaching as you will have the ability to look at the long road behind you and recall the many times when this teaching came true in your own lives. How do we know that the Bible is not just a clever compilation of books written over time by various authors who decided to write a document to get everyone to believe the same things they believed? How do we know it is inspired, God-Breathed and not like any other book ever written? How do we know we can trust the words in it as being "The Word Of God" as it is often called? Really important questions to answer if it is to be considered an authentic and trustworthy guide on which to build our lives, adjust our thinking, and alter our behavior towards God and others. Pastor Jim addresses these questions in this first lesson talking about the Origin of the Bible. Why are there so many kinds of Bibles? How do I know which one is the best for me? Do they all say the same thing? Is there one Bible that is closest to the Bible that the very first Christians used? Pastor James Kirby is continuing the series on Discipleship with this 4th lesson entitled, “Bible Study Tools for Strengthening Your Faith.” Beginning with the Bible, Pastor Jim takes us through a number of study aids and explains the purpose and use of each reference tool. As Paul urges Timothy, “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 Is study required to be a Christian? No. However, when we study God’s Word, and “dig” a little deeper by hearing what learned commentators have to say about a particular passage, or we ourselves use the tools that allow us to work with and understand the original languages of the Bible, we strengthen our faith as we come to learn just how believable, practical, and beneficial God’s thoughts and words towards us really are. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Jeremiah 29:11 The Bible should be studied to appreciate the times and cultures and how God has spoken through the ages to anyone who would listen. For indeed, He still speaks to His people, those who are called by His name. God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spoke in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son… Hebrews 1:1-2a Watch this video lesson and be encouraged to become like Timothy in the Bible; “..A workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” In school you studied reading, writing, math, history, science, and much more. Because you learned these subjects, your time on Earth has been, for the most part, based upon knowledge and understanding. Think about what would things be like for you if you never studied these topics and others. Now, as a Christian, another world has been opened to you. A world not of this world. And he (Jesus) said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. 24 John 8:23-24 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. In a beautiful exposition of the attributes of God, Pastor James Kirby gives us the understanding about how God does not separate love from justice or His omnipotence from love. Discipleship Lesson 8 Trinity

Pastor James takes us through the scene of the casting out of the demon of the father's son who at times would be thrown into the fire to burn him to death or into the water to drown the possessed boy in an epileptic type of attack. The father cries out to Jesus to deliver his only child from the power of the demon only after the disciples could not help the child because of what Jesus later identified as "their "little faith." Here we learn about the four types of unbelief Jesus encounters as He comes to demonstrate the kind of belief the disciples lacked. Pastor Jim asks us the question, "Do you see yourself in this scene?" Present were the teachers of the Law, the onlookers, the disciples, the boy's father, and conspicuously absent were those who were about their busy lives, unaware of this powerful event taking place in their own town. Perhaps the most critical discipline for a Christian believer is that of prayer. Why? Jesus constantly prayed , Paul said, "pray without ceasing, Did they understand something about prayer that somehow changed the world by listening to God instead of acting on their own all the time? Did Jesus receive His marching orders in minute detail before He came to earth, or was He in such close and constant contact with God while He was on the earth, that He could say, "I do nothing of myself. Only what My Father tells me to do and say, that's what I do."? He sought solitude and a place of quiet when He left His disciples for a time of prayer. Pastor James Kirby tells us why we too should follow in these footsteps of our Lord as He prayed so many prayers resulting in so many things that were done and said as true expressions of God's heart towards man. Jesus did not just talk to God. He talked with God. He knew His Father's voice because He listened for it every time He prayed. Jesus said, "My Sheep know my voice."
