Mendocino Christian Fellowship is located in the historic village of Mendocino, CA, a short walk from the rugged bluffs of the Pacific Ocean coast. The community is picturesque and quaint. We took possession of our church building back in the 1950’s, and it appears to have changed very little through the years. Change or expansion have been held in check by the community’s active historical preservation focus. Come to think about it, our doctrines haven’t changed either.
We still believe the inerrancy of God’s Word, the divinity of Jesus Christ, the virgin birth, atonement for our sins through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary, and the physical resurrection and bodily return of Christ. It would follow then, that we tend to be conservative in other areas of doctrine, but we also are a bit uncomfortable with too many labels. We shy away from debates over theology. What we do with passion and conviction, is preach and teach about Jesus, the power of His resurrected life, and about the nature of our Heavenly Father. What we find happening is that we’re coming to understand who we are in Christ. And that gives us peace and security in world full of uncertainty and confusion, which is something precious to share.
It’s unlikely that we’ll be building on to our little church in the near future, but that’s not to say that we don’t reach out beyond our walls. At times during the week, we may worship together in our church, but at all times and in all places… we are the church.
